love ten times

This fourteenth day of February, in the year two thousand and twenty-five, I am calling on us all to speak love ten times. I’ll start us off …

  • One: to those who bring their truly lovely selves to the days, nights, work, play, city, nation and planet that is the stuff of every day life, thank you for being who you are and for bringing what you do.
  • Two: art, literature, music, theatre, film and dance — I wouldn’t want to imagine life without them.
  • Three: science and scholarship — for helping us to advance our understanding and question our ideas (old and new).
  • Four: call me a tree-hugger — yes, I love trees.
  • Five: days of cooking, then inviting friends and family to share some good food (and nice wine), lively conversation, laughter (and usually, some dancing).
  • Six: Montréal — of course, enough said.
  • Seven: the non-profit sector — when it’s working well, it works wonders.
  • Eight: people who speak, act and live with integrity and a sense of social responsibility — needed now more than ever, it seems.
  • Nine: the morning sun (and waking up to another day).
  • Ten: the ability of humanity, against all odds, to keep love alive (yes, you can call me sentimental, on this February 14th).

Speak your love ten times today.

And tomorrow, and tomorrow and tomorrow.
