Step aside, It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol. Okay, maybe not “step aside” altogether, but at least, make room. Make room to laugh. My post today is inspired by a dear friend who has introduced me to more films than anyone else in my life. He was studying film when we were roommates during undergrad and he would talk me into watching films late (late, late) into the night. At some point, years later (roommates again), we watched Mixed Nuts, which remains, to this day, my holiday favourite — Madeline Kahn and Liev Schrieber steal every scene (from the likes of Steve Martin and Adam Sandler), at least for me.
Some other go-to film scenes for my holiday laughs (and I should say, I suppose, that viewer discretion is advised): Seth Rogen in church in The Night Before, Wanda Sykes as the therapist in Bad Moms Christmas or to return to Dickens, Carol Kane as the Ghost of Christmas Present in Scrooged.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the tender moments of the holidays, I do. No matter what, though, pass the mixed nuts, please 🙂
