Too dark. Too soon. Yes, yes, I’m gradually wrapping my head around longer nights. It happens every year, I know, so you’d think I’d be quick to adjust. But no, no, no. Nightfall, already, before I’ve ended the work day, what …?
There isn’t much (thankfully) that I miss about being in my twenties (believe it or not), but at that time of my life, my work was in bars and restaurants, which meant that I always had some daylight hours that belonged to me, rather than to my job (don’t get me wrong, my current work life is good, but my weekday, 9-5 hours belong to work). The photo above, I took last month at a friend’s bar, someone I worked with in my twenties, who, for the past ten years has owned The Forsberg in Berlin (the German in the title of this week’s blog post: In the dark, Licht finden — find light).
I did find light in the dark when visiting The Forsberg.* And it reminded me that part of the beauty of this suddenly-too-dark-too-soon time of year is in finding that little bit of light in the dark of the longer nights.
* The Forsberg is a place to check out, if you’re in Berlin, for sure. But don’t take my word for it, as I’ve told you it belongs to a friend (who doesn’t know I’m writing this, but still) … look to the reviews to see for yourself.
