green. house. greenhouse.

No matter where you are on the spectrum of feelings about the weather in Canada (or beyond) during the cooler months of the year, find yourself a greenhouse, if you can. As you may know, a growing body of research shows that a little of that green — 120 minutes per week, according to this article — can go a long way when it comes to our health.

Good, because that is how much time I usually spend in the greenhouses when I go to the jardin botanique in Montréal. The website doesn’t do justice to the 10 interconnected greenhouses and the 36,000 plants they contain. That is a lot of green, my friends.

I go as often as I can from November to April, to bask in the gloriousness of it, because it is glorious. The moment I walk into the greenhouses, any tension evaporates from my temples and pours out of my fingertips. And I want to say to them, those 36,000 plants, “You are stunningly beautiful, darlings.” I leave feeling calm, filled with energy, optimistic, thankful.

So … this is a gentle reminder to take the time to visit the greenhouses, gardens, parks and trails near you … breathe it in … and say hello to those darlings for me.
