Pina screened at the Cinéma du Musée to coincide with the performance of a work from the late Pina Bausch at Place des Arts this past winter. The film by Wim Wenders, widely lauded, has been described as “a stunning tribute” with extracts spanning more than 30 years of performances by the internationally celebrated German dancer and choreographer. The film trailer (check it out) speaks true — the film is so many things: dance, theatre, life, love, freedom, struggle, longing, joy, despair, reunion, beauty and strength. It debuted in 2011 at the Berlin International Film Festival. Although I was more than 10 years late in seeing the film, it resurrected a memory of a Pina Bausch performance that I saw long ago. I had almost forgotten. Seeing this film was like opening a window that I had forgotten was there.
